The challenge

Live with the head of state — no second take

A live interview with the President of Poland is a broadcast with zero room for error: one take, a massive audience watching in real time and full TV-grade quality expected from the very first second. On top of that, a television studio had to be built on site — with lighting, set design and multi-camera coverage.

It felt like the set of a major premiere: an audience approaching two million, thousands of live comments and a programme that had to run flawlessly from the first minute to the last.

How we did it

An OB van and TV-grade direction

The heart of the production was our OB van, parked right next to the interview location. We captured the picture with Panasonic AK-HC3900 studio cameras and mixed the programme on a Ross Carbonite Ultra 2M/E switcher.

Audio ran on a Yamaha QL5 console with Shure microphones, the crew stayed connected over RTS Intercom, and the programme was backed up by an EVS XT3 Channel Max system and an EVS XFile 3.0 server. The signal went out live to the OficjalneZero channel on YouTube.

FAQ

Live interview broadcast production — common questions

How much does a live interview broadcast cost?

The price depends on the scale: the number of cameras, building a studio and lighting on site, use of an OB van, recording and the length of the programme. A simple conversation in an existing studio is priced differently from a live with a full set build and complete TV-grade direction. Describe your format — we prepare a quote within one business day.

Do you produce live broadcasts on YouTube?

Yes. The interview with the President of Poland went out live on the OficjalneZero channel on YouTube and was watched by over 2 million viewers. We produce YouTube live streams from single conversations to programmes running many hours.

Can you build a studio at any location?

Yes. For this interview we built a complete television set on site — with set design, lighting and camera positions. We arrive with an OB van and set up a studio wherever the event takes place.

Do you provide an OB van with a full crew?

Yes. Our production OB van arrives with a complete crew: a vision director, camera operators, a sound engineer and broadcast engineers. We also work at night and on the road.

How do you secure a broadcast with a very large audience?

With redundancy at every stage: independent signal paths, backup power and parallel programme recording on an EVS system. When millions of people are watching, it is the technical backbone that keeps the broadcast on air.

Do you record the material in parallel with the live broadcast?

Yes. During the interview with the President of Poland the programme was recorded by an EVS XT3 Channel Max system and an EVS XFile 3.0 server — independently of the live transmission. The material is ready for editing and publication right after the broadcast ends.

Planning a live interview or live programme broadcast?

We can take on the entire production — OB van, cameras, audio, lighting, recording and delivery — or just the part you need. Tell us what you are organising and we will prepare a quote within one day.
