In beautiful Szczecin our OB van produced the live broadcast of orienteering — the three-day European Youth Orienteering Championships (EYOC 2024). We brought the signal together from several locations using the LiveU system, while the EVS system prepared the replays and highlights.

A competition held out in the field, across several locations at once
Orienteering is a sport that happens on the move and in dispersion — competitors follow a course by map through the streets and parks of the city, and the action spreads across several points at the same time. To show it in television quality, the signal had to be gathered from many locations simultaneously and brought together into a single broadcast feed.
The challenge was to keep the coverage continuous across the three days of competition — from the start, through the course, to the finish — so that online viewers always knew what was happening out on the course.

An OB van, the field signal over LiveU and EVS replays
We ran the production from our OB van, which was the on-site production hub. The signal from cameras set up in several locations was delivered to us by the LiveU system, so we could show the course from many points at the same time. The programme was mixed on a Ross Carbonite switcher.
Live replays and highlight summaries of the best moments were prepared by the EVS replay system — exactly as in a professional television production. It was all rounded off by a well-drilled, cheerful crew and smooth communication throughout the competition.

Viewers got a smooth, multi-camera orienteering broadcast from multiple locations, with replays of the best action and summaries of the finest moments. The European Championships in Szczecin were produced the television way — with the picture quality and pace you expect from a professional sports broadcast.
It is a good example that broadcasting a competition held out in the field is not one camera at the finish line — it is a multi-camera production: signal from many points, directing the sources, replays and reliable delivery throughout the whole event.
