What is the Sonifex AVN-CU4?

The Sonifex AVN-CU4 is a fully configurable commentary console that uses both analog and Dante AoIP connectivity. The unit provides four microphone or line inputs with a wide, adjustable gain range and four stereo headphone outputs with lockable jacks—suitable for use by one, two, three, or four commentators. OneStream offers the AVN-CU4 for rent along with Sennheiser HMDC 27 headphones.

How does the AVN-CU4 commentator console work?

The device can handle virtually any commentary situation thanks to Dante connections and a dual-redundant network. It offers several power supply options: AC, DC, and PoE. Up to 48 rotary encoders can be used on inputs, outputs, or crosspoints, enabling support for talkback, commentary, and audio mixing channels in a single device. The console is designed to be configurable for various scenarios using configuration files that can be saved and recalled for quick setup. Buttons and encoders can be locked if the unit is being operated by less technically savvy commentators.

The Sonifex AVN-CU4 supports up to 4 commentators simultaneously—you can configure it for 1, 2, 3, or 4 people. It has 4 microphone/line inputs and 4 stereo headphone outputs. The kit includes 2 Sennheiser HMDC 27 headsets—we can provide additional headsets for the 3rd and 4th commentators upon request.

Both options! The AVN-CU4 supports both analog (XLR) and digital Dante AoIP connections. What’s more, the analog connections can serve as a simultaneous backup for Dante (redundancy). We deliver the console preconfigured for either analog or Dante operation, depending on your needs. We can also help you set up a custom configuration for your specific audio system.

The cough button is a standard feature of commentary consoles—it allows a commentator to temporarily mute their microphone (e.g., to clear their throat, cough, or say something privately) without interrupting the broadcast. The AVN-CU4 has four such buttons (one per commentator). This is a key feature for professional live commentary.

Talkback is a two-way communication system—it allows commentators to talk with the director, the sound engineer, or each other, without that audio being broadcast. The AVN-CU4 has 8 talkback buttons (up to 4 per user), which allows for flexible communication within the crew during live productions. This is essential for professional sports broadcasts.

The minimum rental period is 1 day (600 PLN net). The console is preconfigured to operate in analog mode or via the Dante protocol—we’ll help you set up your own configuration. We offer discounts for longer-term projects. Delivery within Warsaw is FREE; outside Warsaw, delivery is subject to agreement. Contact us for a custom quote.
