How does a microphone splitter work?
Each of the 24 channels features two XLR outputs—one sends the signal before the transformer (direct), and the other after it (transformer-isolated). The transformer-isolated output provides galvanic isolation—eliminating hum and ground loops between different audio systems. The design is complemented by convenient switches. This allows a single signal to be sent simultaneously to multiple destinations (e.g., FOH, monitors, broadcast truck, recorder)—each with clean, undistorted sound.
What is the LIFT/GND switch for?
When you connect several audio systems powered by different sources (e.g., a stage sound system and a broadcast truck), so-called ground loops occur—manifesting as a 50 Hz hum and buzz. The LIFT/GND switch allows you to disconnect the ground on selected outputs, eliminating this problem. This is a crucial feature for productions where the audio signal is shared among independent crews—without it, the sound would be distorted.
