Zbigniew Herbert International Literary Award

During the ceremony at the Teatr Polski on May 25, Breyten Breytenbach received a statuette and a check for 50,000 dollars from Ms. Katarzyna Herbert and Dr. Grażyna Melanowicz, a representative of the PZU Foundation. The laudation in honor of the laureate was delivered by Jarosław Mikołajewski, a member of the Award Jury. The assembled guests listened to selected poems by Zbigniew Herbert interpreted by Joanna Trzepiecińska and Andrzej Seweryn. The evening was graced by a musical performance by Włodek Pawlik, a world-renowned composer and jazz pianist, who performed improvisations inspired by the paintings of Breyten Breytenbach.
