What is EVS XFile 3 Ultra Performance?
EVS XFile 3 is a professional server from EVS that enables file transfer, archiving, and management of video footage recorded by the EVS XT3 ChannelMax replay server. OneStream offers the top-of-the-line version of this server—Ultra Performance—for rent, along with all available licenses. This allows you to simultaneously record, transcode, and archive up to 20 video streams, making it an unrivaled post-production tool for live productions.
How does XFile 3 work in a broadcast workflow?
The XFile 3 server archives files stored in the EVS XT3 ChannelMax server banks and allows video, audio, and photo content to be uploaded to the server from external sources. It is equipped with two ICE Boxes (removable external hard drives, 4 TB each) and several USB 3.0 ports for connecting additional drives. Additionally, video footage can be sent at set intervals to an FTP server or network drives, from which the editor can download it on an ongoing basis for further post-production—saving you hours of production time.
XFile 3 vs. XT3 ChannelMax — What's the Difference?
The EVS XT3 ChannelMax is a replay server for live production (camera recording, replays, slow-motion). The EVS XFile 3, on the other hand, is an archiving and transcoding server—it receives footage from the XT3 and prepares it for post-production. Most often, both devices work together on broadcast sets:
- The XT3 records 12 camera channels and supports live replays (replay, slow-motion).
- XFile 3 archives footage from the XT3 and transcodes it into formats for editors (ProRes, DNxHD).
- XFile 3 supports 4K/12G—XT3 ChannelMax operates natively at 1080p.
- XFile 3 converts HDR to SDR, which is essential for broadcasting to various platforms.

These are two different devices in a single broadcast workflow. The EVS XT3 ChannelMax is a replay server for live production (camera recording, replay, slow-motion, 12 channels). EVS XFile 3 is an archiving and transcoding server—it receives footage from the XT3, transcodes it to ProRes / DNxHD, and archives it. The XFile 3 also supports 4K/12G and HDR→SDR conversion, features that the XT3 does not have.
XFile 3 also works as a standalone device. You can import content from external drives (USB 3.0, ICE Box), FTP servers, or network drives and transcode it independently of the XT3. However, you’ll get the most comprehensive workflow when using it in combination with the XT3 ChannelMax—we recommend our Package C, which includes both devices plus operators.
XFile 3 Ultra Performance transcodes to the most popular post-production formats: Apple ProRes (various variants: 422, 422 HQ, 4444), DNxHD, and other intermediate formats. It also supports 4K → HD/720p and HDR → SDR resolution conversion. All licenses are active in our Ultra Performance version.
Yes, XFile 3 supports uploading external content—video, audio, and photos. This content can be delivered via ICE Boxes, USB 3.0, FTP, or network-attached storage (NAS) devices. The server automatically uploads and transcodes external content, enabling a consistent workflow even when using cameras from different manufacturers.
Setup is a standard procedure and takes us about 15–30 minutes on site. All you need to do is provide us with your FTP/NAS access credentials (address, username, password, path)—we’ll set up the server to send new content at selected intervals (e.g., every 5 minutes). Technical support and setup are included free of charge with every package.
The minimum is one day of shooting. For longer projects (3+ days), we offer discounts, especially with Package C (XT3 + XFile + camera operators). Contact us for a custom quote—delivery in Warsaw is FREE; outside Warsaw, delivery is as agreed.
